Anonymous asked: Thoughts on Albert's dad mentioning the fab 5 working on Stroko V?

My thoughts: if I were Albert, I’d tell my dad to stop bloody talking to Strokes fans via Twitter and leaking information to them.

He could be right, since he does have access to more information than we have, but who really knows in the end. As badly as I’d like to know whether or not they’ve started to work on it or not, I just feel like we should be a bit patient and not be nosey, and I see fans hounding Albert Sr. for Strokes info sometimes, which makes me uncomfortable—both the hounding and that he sometimes gives it, haha.

Anonymous asked: Hi chicas. Do you think that future Strokes albums should/will have a rawer ITI-style production edge? Angles was so squeaky clean and 80's-ish that it confounded some listeners. Something that may be cool and still cutting edge for them would be to have slightly longer, rawer songs with Julian singing in his newer, wider style with the darker Angles/Phrazes-type lyrics. The other members will still contribute and everything would make sense. Thoughts?

These are the types of questions I feel like I have a hard time answering—in terms of sound or future plans and stuff, I feel like I have a lot of faith in them and I’m interested in seeing what they come up with. I don’t have so much of a wishlist for what I’d like them to do next as long as they don’t go completely off the deep end and stray from their “signature sound.”

Really, I’d just like them to come up with an effective method of recording together that pleases everyone so they can continue to make music together happily for their sake and ours.

And just for clarification….Albert’s going to Paris too.
Sorry for starting a rumor mill, but this is exciting!

Anonymous asked: On wiki it says The Strokes plan to make their new record the same way they made Angles.. Nick said he wouldn't record a new album if they EVER made a record the same way they made angles. What do you think about this?

I…think it’s Wikipedia and that we shouldn’t treat that as a real source for news whatsoever. Also we shouldn’t trust magazine articles and act like what they said in an interview once is the bottom line and they’ll never go back on anything they once said. I think we need to just let them go about their business and see what happens. I’d love more updates from them and I’d like to know WHEN it’s all happening, of course, but really unless it comes from them in an official capacity, we can’t assume everything we hear about the process is true.

I’m going to answer this one publicly because it’s a good question and I feel like we’re going to get it more than once.
I was hesitant to keep the caption from ZeStrokes on the bottom of the screencap of the tweet I reblogged here just because we’re just kind of guessing that that’s what the tweet meant—“5 is alive” maybe meaning the fifth album is starting to get worked on, is how I interpreted it. However, that is also a reference to an 80s film about a robot called Short Circuit, so I guess maybe Nikolai could have been just watching that film at the time and it’s just a coincidence that it was so easily applied to the eventually-forthcoming fifth album.
Under no circumstances do I think it’s FINISHED, however—If anything, I think this is a sign that they’re STARTING to think about it (not record, think about and plan). Albums take a long time and a lot of work, and as far as we know, that work hasn’t even started yet. In between everything else (finishing up the other album only a year ago, some touring, personal lives, families, etc), I don’t think they would have had time yet to plan and write and record and get ready to release a 5th album already.
As for the “no disassemble” part, I don’t really know, but I’ve been told it’s also in reference to the same film. My immediate thought is that it could be kind of in spite of all the rumors that the band might break up, but I feel like that’s a bit of a reach and me reading what I want to read into what he said. For now, it’s just a really cryptic message from the inside that might mean good news on the album front in terms of it getting worked on/written.

Anonymous asked: Are you guys afraid that there will be another hiatus between Angles and album five?

I…don’t want to freak people out and make everyone all worried, but I kind of am. I don’t think it’s extremely LIKELY that they’ll take forever again, but I think it could be possible depending on who wants to do what and when, and even though most of the members and Ryan have said they’re eager to start work on the next album soon, I just kind of hope everyone’s on the same page with that and that it goes smoothly. I don’t want them to rush, but when Ryan said “more music faster,” I really hope they’re serious about that and try to get something out on a bit more of a traditional timeframe than five bloody years later.

Anonymous asked: Someone was interviewing Albert at i believe Coachella, and he said that there will be a US tour. I'm not sure if anything changed at all. And there was also a twit pic tht Albert tweeted saying "messing around in the studio" not sure if you recall that. But, just some signs that a tour/album might be closer than we think:) MAYBE

I don’t want to rain on anyone’s hope parade, but I think he said that long before they completely sorted out what they were going to do. We heard a lot early in the era that they were “planning out” the tour, and that came to nothing. I’m 100% convinced the Angles era is over and we won’t be seeing them tour until the next album is released. Also yes, they’ve said that their plan is to start writing the next album in the near future, so that’s a GREAT sign if they follow through! However, albums aren’t made in a day or even a few months, so I think the absolute earliest we’d get anything is early/mid 2013.

(I think the interview mentioned is HERE, by the way, from Bonnaroo)

Anonymous asked: It is true that The Strokes are already recording the fifth album?

According to Nikolai about two weeks ago, they haven’t started yet officially, but it sounds like the plan is to start WORKING on it soon, which doesn’t necessarily mean recording.

Check the Stroko V tag for information and updates on the fifth album.

dinningdead asked: hey, do you guys know if it is true the rumors about they release a new album at the beginning of next year? I've found this interview "Back on Track", on my notebooks about them, which in the end Nick says "If I had it my way, we’d have another album out by the end of this year." And, honestly, Angles got pretty fucking good, I don't know why people complain so much.

We’ve talked about our estimates for the fifth album a few times before, but no, there is absolutely no album for the beginning of 2012. They haven’t really had much time to work on one that we know of, though they’ve said that they want to start soon, which I imagine means in the new year if everyone agrees.

s-o-o-p-e-r-m-o-o-n asked: When do you think The Strokes will be finished (or about finished) with Strokes V? 2012? 13?

We talked about this before here, but looking back on it, I don’t know what I was thinking saying late 2012 as a hopeful early estimate—I think that the absolute earliest that makes sense is early/mid 2013.

Anonymous asked: If you had to use your crystal castle ball and predict the future, when would do you think that the fifth Strokes album will come out? What do you think it will sound like? Thank you for the great blog!

My best guess…late 2012, like December, at the earliest. They say they want to make it happen faster, but records usually just don’t happen in a few months, and it sounds like their method of working takes them a bit of time. I think if they’re really serious about writing and recording starting around now and continuing into the new year, it COULD be out late next year, but I think early-mid 2013 is more likely. This is all assuming that everything goes as they planned, however.

Sound like? I’m not so good at talking about that, haha. I think it’ll sound like them, just like all their work does, but sound fresh and new as well, just like Angles did. I think they’ll always keep the core of the five-piece traditional “rock” setup, but maybe have a few synths here and there like they did on the last record.
