Anonymous asked: do you know what show it is where julian and regina are on their knees singing?
Do you mean this picture?

I can’t say I know specifically what show, but Regina did open for The Strokes for part of a leg of the ROF tour (as well as Kings Of Leon on the same tour, God I wish I’d seen all three of those artists then), so I think it would be hard to say at exactly what show this photo was taken.

No one has ever seen this photo that I took. So this is for you!
Thank you all for being so nice and wonderful these days! x This was at Bear Creek Studio in Seattle, when they [Regina Spektor & Julian Casablancas] were singing their song together. xGordon Raphael

Thanks, guys! I didn’t know that at all.
This is the quote from THIS Boston Globe interview:
His influence extended past the making of the album. On a lark, late one night during sessions for the Strokes sophomore CD ”Room on Fire,” Raphael played one of Spektor’s songs for the band’s singer and songwriter, Julian Casablancas. Casablancas asked for a CD to take home that night. The next morning he came into the studio, put his arms around Raphael, and sang one of her songs into his ear. Casablancas invited Spektor to join the band in the studio for ”Modern Girls & Old Fashioned Men,” a B-side to the ”Reptilia” single, and — despite the rather glaring aesthetic differences — the Strokes took Spektor out as opening act on their North American tour. That’s when the labels came calling.
Anonymous asked: I'm going to take a guess and say they got linked by their producer, Gordon Raphael. Just guessing
That definitely could have been a possibility!
Anonymous asked: do you guys know how that whole tour with Regina Spektor started back in 2003?
Hmm, well I’m not sure how it STARTED. I bet they admired her work and invited her to open for them, probably, and might have known about each other and crossed each others’ paths by both being NYC artists. They ended up being quite buddy-buddy with each other, but I don’t know how they met, really.

Anonymous asked: Can you explain the lyrics of "Modern Girls and Old Fashioned Men"??
In a nutshell, I think it’s a conversation between two people in a relationship that are having a rough time of it, almost like a bickering fight, but a little more poetic, of course. I think that’s why it works so well in a male/female duet. If it was just The Strokes without anyone else, I don’t think it would make as much sense or be as good. Julian’s good at the dialogue thing in his lyrics, especially on ITI and ROF, but this one is made even better by having another person sing those words.

Anonymous asked: oooh okay i see ^.^ Do you know what's the song called or where i can find it? because yea i heard before that her bf made a song about her and said something about julian too.
I just found it again! Apparently the song is called “Rotten Love” by the band Levy. “I think about Regina…” etc etc, even though the song doesn’t mention Julian by name, I thought it did for some reason. The lead singer, James Levy, is the one who Regina allegedly dumped for Julian. Something in my mind tells me that there was an interview where Levy discussed the song in more detail and admitted clearly to what it was about, but if there was, I can’t find it. But just remember that all of this is just hearsay and rumor, and we’ll probably never know for sure :)

Anonymous asked: hey so i've been thinking about this lately, were julian and regina every dating at once? Like i've read alot of stuff saying that they were together at one point. But then that it's not real and that she was dating nick. Also about this rumor about how she cheated this one bf she had when the strokes and her were in a tour they had with Julian. I really don't know what to believe, but yea it's been bugging me for a while, so yeah help :p
The short answer is that no one really knows for sure. I’ve heard strong evidence that Julian and Regina dated for awhile, and I kind of believe it myself, personally. I can’t remember the person or artist or anything right now, but apparently Regina’s musician boyfriend before Julian (if they were an item) wrote a break-up song I think even referencing his name because of the alleged cheating. I went looking for that information not too long ago because someone else asked me and couldn’t reproduce it, however. I don’t think Regina and Nick dated, though—I think the timing is slightly off for that, because he and Amanda started dating in 2001 or 2002, and I’m not sure if the band knew Regina til after that.
But yes, the whole thing is kind of a mystery. I’m usually not very interested in their personal/romance lives, but because I’m a fan of Regina’s too, I’ve wondered about that myself.

Exactly 8 years ago, in Chicago (of all glorious places), this photograph was taken.
