Anonymous asked: Hey :) I was wondering where i could find a video of Julian telling the audience to please give back his necklace. I saw it a while back on Youtube but don't know where it went. I think it's early strokes stuff. Thanks.
HERE!
Anonymous asked: Any idea where to get the Strokes Live in Paris 2002 audio bootleg? I've looked and I can't seem to find it. I'll be grateful for any help!
I’m not a great bootlegs person, so I had to turn to the wise Janie (she asked me to refer to her as the firey ice goddess from the darkest layer of hell) who uploaded it here!
There’s also a 2005 Paris bootleg that can be downloaded here.
Anonymous asked: I've been looking everywhere and can't find the video where Julian sings to Fab on stage, I know I saw it here and I've been looking for it on youtube and failed. Please Help!
If my memory serves me correctly, that was Planeta Terra (if we’re thinking about the same time, anyway). Check this post here, however I can’t remember specifically song it was in, and I can’t guarantee that those YouTube links work. If you want to download them, check the very bottom of the page here.
probablythemouth asked: Is there any other band or artist who have played with them live? I mean aside from GBV, Regina, Jack White, Slash, Eddie Vedder, Josh Homme, Jarvis something and Elvis Costello... Thank you! and sorry for my english tho.
Hmm…that’s actually a pretty complete list that I can think of…I’ll put this out to everyone: can anyone else think of any missing ones?
EDIT: Har Mar evidently performed Under Control with The Strokes once, and I’ve gotten messages from several people saying they think The Moldy Peaches performed with The Strokes at least once.

Anonymous asked: Do you have a link to the performance that was going to be released as a live cd i think?
I think you mean Alexandra Palace…shesfixingherhair!
Anonymous asked: what is the best show of the tour of angles? i love that tour.
Bonnaroo and Reading, if you ask me! For the time being, you can download both of those shows off of Lou’s site, but who knows how long the links will still work.

perilune asked: what songs does Nick sing background for, and is he the only one who has sung alongside Julian?
Albert and Nick sing backup on Under Cover of Darkness and Gratisfaction live, and Nick also sings on You’re So Right live. On You’re So Right on the record, I think Nikolai is also singing along with Julian on the first verse only (just because it sounds like the same voice that’s on Nikolai’s solo records to me), but I think Julian’s voice is double tracked on the rest of the song. However, I think Nick is singing on the chorus of Call Me Back on the record as well.
(Am I forgetting anything?)
Before Angles, they didn’t really do much with background vocals or even a lot of double-tracked vocals, so it’s pretty much just Angles we’re talking about here :)

The Strokes - Live At The 2004 KROQ Weenie Roast 6-13-04 (full show)
(We had one anon in the askbox asking for this and another supplying it before I could get around to looking for it—I’m just going to assume you’re both the same person rather than jump to the conclusion that our askbox is the crossroads of the Twilight Zone again or something).

Anonymous asked: What do you think was their worst live performance?
i have only been to two shows of theirs in my time, and both were very very excellent. i couldn’t even choose which one was better, really. the concerts that i personally have seen live, i don’t know.
as for livestreams/clips/reviews i’ve seen of full shows, that’s also kind of difficult, because i feel like i can’t judge well unless i’m there. if i were to, though, i would have to trust another person’s opinion. i’m very jealous of one of my friend’s sisters who saw them in 2004 in the UK. she’s 26 now and still says to this day that it was one of the worst shows she’s ever been to. she says that it ended up not going well at all when expectations were so high. apparently the crowd was terrible and julian was very exhausted and struggling to stay conscious. overall, she said, it was shockingly poor performance.
i have to say, also, i really wasn’t feeling coachella 2011. no, i wasn’t there, but again, judging based off of the livestream/clips, i don’t think it was a strong show at all for several reasons.

Anonymous asked: watching live performances of songs from Angles made me realize that I like the songs much better when they're raw, without all the fine-tuning like on the studio version (although I love the album either way). I was wondering if y'all agree?
i do agree with that. i don’t think that’s to say that angles sounds bad with it’s fine-tuning, i simply think almost any music sounds better in its most raw, stripped form. that is my personal aural-aesthetic opinion.

Anonymous asked: Do you have a video of them playing killing lies live?
Here’s one—it’s just audio, though. The description of the video says it was only played live twice, and I believe it because they rarely, rarely played it. It’s not far-fetched to say it was only ever brought out twice!

voltage-veins-deactivated201204 asked: so um, i've got a bunch of questions about Ask Me Anything; what instruments are used? are all the band members playing something or is it just that one (synthesizer?) since its clearly not the usual instruments that the band uses do they ever play the song live? and also one last thing (sorry about this) but when Julian says 'don't be a coconut' i think its a mataphor describing someone who finds it hard to let people in
The main riff of Ask Me Anything is played on a mellotron, by Nick, and yes, they did play it live on the FIOE tour, and once at MSG in New York this year. Here’s a picture of Nick on the mellotron live like he used to do:

My first Strokes concert in 2006 is kind of a blur, but one of the moments that sticks out is when they did AMA, because it’s one of my favorites and I think it can be kind of underrated. I mostly like it because it’s a bit of a departure for them, and I think some of the lyrics are brilliant. I’m not sure if I think it’s about one thing—I think a lot of Julian’s lyrics are about a few ideas mashed together, but I think in part it might be about not feeling adequate or good enough, but wanting to continue on anyway. Some of the other lines are a bit harder to decipher, but I still really like them.

Anonymous asked: well then do you know where i can find other drunk shows they have done please from like any kind of era? thanks c:
Julian was drunk to some degree at a LOT of shows in the ITI and ROF eras, but there’s nothing that I’ve seen that matches the Arlene’s Grocery show in any way. I think they were more than drunk as well at that show, if you know what I mean. Still check out diamondcutshereye.
