Anonymous asked: One of the reasons why songs like Hard to Explain was so gnarly was the use of distortion and space. The gritty vocals and guitar sounded far in the background. Then the silence was great in the middle. On the 5th album, would you like to hear more distortion and space like this, a la Sonic Youth, Yo La Tengo, VU, and even new bands like Yuck? Or is the ultra-tight, polished sound of Phrazes/Angles the way of the future for The Strokes forever more?
i like distortion and lo-fi a lot more than extremely clean, tight sounds. i personally hope to see the former on album V. not to say that i dislike the sound of angles, but i like the sonic aspects of is this it better.
